Tooth Preparation for Your Restorative Treatment
Your tooth restoration can be hindered by the type and amount of tooth damage. Inflammation and decay that result from a broken or decayed tooth on or near your gum line can cause problems for your restorative treatment.
Crown lengthening exposes more of your tooth structure by removing gum and/or bone tissue to assist with your treatment. The procedure can also treat the problem of too much gum tissue around your upper teeth known as a “gummy smile.”
The necessary amount of gum tissue will be removed to expose more of your tooth structure. Your restorative treatment such as a dental crown or dental filling can proceed without being impacted by excessive gum tissue.
Contact your Georgia periodontist about your decayed or damaged teeth. Schedule an oral examination to discuss crown lengthening.
